Melania Trump is oftentimes photographed in stylish and expensive pieces. And some netizens couldn’t help but wonder who pays for them.
Some people are speculating on the possibility of Donald Trump spending tons of money on his wife’s wardrobe. But according to Express, this isn’t the case. In fact, the FLOTUS doesn’t also depend on taxpayers’ money to pay for her clothes.
The first lady’s spokesperson, Stephanie Grisham previously told The Hollywood Reporter that Melania pays for her own clothes. However, she doesn't normally pay the full price. The former model has an estimated net worth of $49 million from her previous castings.
In the book “Free, Melania,” author Kate Bennett claimed that there are no coincidences when it comes to the first lady. As such, all of the clothes she wears and the message that goes with them are intentional.
However, Bennett also seeming contradicted her claims about Melania’s wardrobe. She suggested that her jacket with the words “I really don’t care, do you?” on it was a jab at Ivanka Trump. The FLOTUS’s “pussy bow” blouse was worn after Donald Trump’s controversial statements about groping women were leaked.
But when it comes to the FLOTUS’s Instagram posts, Bennett said that her followers should not look too much into them.
“To read into these glamour shots is an exercise in futility. A picture of her ponytail, captioned ‘Thursday,’ is probably just that: a picture of her ponytail on a Thursday,” she wrote.
The Washington Post criticized the FLOTUS if Bennett is correct in saying that she communicates through her clothes.
“Truly, which is the more unsettling interpretation of Melania Trump? That all of the odd stuff she’s done has been intentional, but she’s bizarrely choosing to communicate in fashion code, rather than to communicate using any one of the five human languages she speaks? Or that she has no plan at all — that she wakes up and throws on pussy bows and sloganed jackets, and nobody surrounding her thinks to say, Hmm?” columnist Monica Hesse wrote.
