Contrary to her husband Donald Trump, outgoing first lady Melania Trump is already overseeing preparations for their departure from the White House by January. With the Trumps’ relocating to Florida becoming more and more likely, they are also going to be faced with major changes in their lifestyle.
Melania may have publicly echoed her husband’s sentiments that the elections were “rigged,” but behind closed doors, she is already preparing for their departure from the White House. Last week, reports have surfaced that the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida will be undergoing renovations and expansion, especially the residential part of the resort. Melania is also reportedly expected to decide which school in Florida she will enroll their son Barron Trump in.
However, should the Trumps choose to ultimately relocate to Mar-a-Lago, they would be downsizing in terms of living space. The Trumps’ living quarters in the resort is revealed to only measure up to 3,000 square feet compared t the 55,000 square feet of the White House. According to author Laurence Learner, their Florida residence may end up becoming “confining” for the outgoing president.
“It will feel like staying full-time at a nice hotel,” said Learner. “It’s fine for a bit, sure, but can you imagine Donald Trump just sitting around there for six months of the year? It will start to feel confining very quickly.”
Melania’s step-daughter Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner are also expected to settle in Florida. The couple recently bought a plot of land in an exclusive part of Miami nicknamed “Billionaire’s bunker” due to the many high-profile residents.
But along with Melania’s departure from the White House, she may also run into legal challenges. The first lady was recently issued a subpoena by the attorney general of Washington DC as part of their investigation into the misuse of inauguration funds back in 2017. Melania’s former friend and aide, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, was also revealed to have been deposed last week. According to the attorney general, she provided thousands of documentation serving as proof that Melania was involved in the decision-making process. Wolkoff also accused Ivanka and Melania of trying to create a false narrative that she ran off with the inauguration funds.
