Amid a torrent of rumours, Phil Spencer quotes, and Forza Horizon 5's PS5 announcement, another of Xbox's first-party games appears to be fated for a multi-platform release.
Microsoft is currently hiring for a position within its studio The Initiative, which is currently developing a brand new game in the Perfect Dark series.
Spotted by geronimo_73_, the job listing for Principal Graphics Engineer mentions multi-platform development more than once.
Under the heading Responsibilities, one of the points reads: "Optimize and ensure the scalability of the rendering features to support multiple platforms and quality settings."
Another point mentions meeting performance goals on the "target platforms", plural.
Finally, under Preferred Experience, Microsoft is looking for someone with experience of "multi-platform development".
Perfect Dark was announced at The Game Awards in 2020, and development has apparently been less than smooth.
About a year after announcement, it was revealed that Crystal Dynamics would be partnering with The Initiative on development.
Work began using Unreal Engine 4, but the team has since swapped to Unreal Engine 5.
More recently, Brian Horton, who was creative director on Marvel's Wolverine, moved over to The Initiative to direct Perfect Dark.
We can't take this job posting as total confirmation that the game is heading to PS5, but in our view, the wording used does at least imply it. Given Microsoft's current strategy, it wouldn't be out of the question, either.
What do you think? Would you like to see the new Perfect Dark head to multiple platforms? Does this job listing provide evidence that it's happening? Discuss in the comments section below.

Multiple platforms could quite easily be Xbox and PC.
But to be honest I think MS will chuck pretty much everything new on PS. They don't seem to feel there is a better way of making money with their platform right now.
I actually would like to play the new Perfect Dark, so many good memories from playing the og on N64!

Seems highly likely at this point.
Shall be playing on series x or next generation at this rate, using game pass ultimate.
Seems such an easy way to play games and get good value for money.
Still did not see this happening. Microsoft ending the war and sharing exclusives is a bold move. Makes sense financially though.
Not remotely surprising.
I just pray they don’t mess it up.
It’s a series and cool character that could be so great but has always fluffed it in my opinion.
N64 version was really let down by the hardware of the day and its poor frame rate, and the 360 version showed flashes of brilliance but was highly flawed and could been so much more if given a few more years and released mid generation.
I’m old and s*** but it’s hard to care about a series that hasn’t been relevant or good for a quarter of a century.
Once they see how much more money they will make by releasing their IP on multi platforms rather chasing those pointless gamepass subs they will put everything on everything they can. They will make an absolute rediculous fortune and as much as i dont like MS brand, fair play to them.
@Kidfunkadelic83 And all it took was little old Hifi rush, oh and sea of theives.
@Medic_alert MS releases their 1st party games on both PC & Xbox since 2016. Why this time around they specifically use the word "multiplatform"?
Time will tell ..
@Dr_ENT do you have any other job adverts for similar roles that have not used that wording?
Unsurprising. I do wonder will this be any good, the gameplay demo they showed off seemed highly scripted like the E3 demos of old. I hope they make a great game but this Perfect Dark remake seems to have been on the struggle bus for years
A Crimson Skies remaster would be braw ✈️✈️ 👍
It's now a case of what games aren't coming to PS5 rather than what games are coming.
My most-played fps of all time. So, yes, please! I have never loved an fps as much as I loved the original Perfect Dark! Sooooo many memories.
Provided they can polish the game, which Xbox to their credit usually do from my experience with some of their ports, this would be a huge win for everyone.
I PRAY that this makes immersive sims more financially viable for devs in the current market. We need stuff like this and I hope it helps smaller devs realise they can actually make them too. It's a beautiful genre of game that could bloom in a market so hellbent on the ubisoft formula
At this point I would expect virtually every Microsoft game to come to PlayStation, i'd find it larger news if it didn't.
Would be nice to have it released. Hopefully the multiplayer is good to and not a season pass, buy to win, fps like call of duty.
@Kidfunkadelic83 Microsoft made 64% of their revenue on PlayStation in December. That's effectively twice as much as everything they made on Xbox, PC, Mobile, Cloud and Nintendo combined. I don't think they need much more evidence.
@Fartingale That's how I felt until I remembered the laptop gun. Bring it back!
News now should be what games are Microsoft not bringing to PS5.
There’s no suggestion. It will be coming.
It’s just whether it comes day 1 or 3/6months
At this point pretty safe to assume all future games will come over in due time.
Did anybody else read that as perfect dark cloud 😅
@Medic_alert exactly this, there's nothing in that listing to remotely suggest a PS5 release, given that "multiple platforms" covers Series S/X, PC and likely Steamdeck verification.
But Microsofts recent behaviour means it very well could come to PS5
@carlos82 Yeah, I guess it is just the hot topic of the day and is producing a bucket load of traffic.
I think we will know much much more come April 2nd.
If MS are going to make a splash as a 3rd party publisher surely a collection of high profile Switch 2 announcements in the Nintendo Direct would be the way to do it and this in turn will almost certainly confirm some of what is coming to PS.
@UltimateOtaku91 All games worth porting are going and we all know it !
I like what MS showed off of this and would defo be interested on ps5!
Definitely interested if it does come over.
My Series X will become my back-compat and FPS Boost console.
I can imagine it will go to PS5, not day one but 3-12 months after. I noticed they do day 1 or within a few months on certain Bethesda (Doom/Indy) and Actibizz games (COD) and a little longer for Xbox Studio games (Avowed, MS Flight Sim 24)
