Microsoft has today revealed it'll be releasing PS5 ports of Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition and Age of Mythology: Retold in the coming months. The former will launch for PS5 in Spring 2025, and the latter is out on 4th March 2025.
Revealed less than a week after the PS5 port of Forza Horizon 5 was first announced, the two strategy titles bring high-quality battles to Sony's current-gen system. "Playing across all platforms is a game-changer for our franchise, and it’s all about bringing our community together," a blog post from Michael Mann shares. "This isn’t just about convenience — it’s about growing and strengthening the Age community." Cross-play will let you join up with current Xbox and PC users.
Age of Mythology: Retold is a remaster of the 2002 original from Ensemble Studios. Released late last year to positive reviews, the PS5 version will feature a fully up-to-date version and offer a new DLC called Immortal Pillars separately. The standard version costs £22.49 / $29.99, and the Premium Edition is £37.99 / $49.99 and offers five days of early access.
Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, meanwhile, is a remaster of the original game from 1999, and features enhanced graphics at a 4K resolution as well as all previous DLC and entirely new content. The PS5 port arrives in the Spring, and will launch alongside another expansion. Again, there'll be cross-play support across all platforms.

We all know basically everything will come out, so what I would be far more interested in Seeing would be a proper road map from Microsoft with all the dates that they hope to release their games on PlayStation. I do hate a drip feed approach to this kind of info! 😂
It’s is so nice for cross play, so we can all play together and share.
The same with Forza Horizon 5, we can race together.
Definitely thinking about picking up age of empires 2, hopefully it's 30 as well. It's pretty crazy to think that as a PlayStation gamer I might actually buy more Microsoft developed games this year then Sony.
Two of the best RTS games ever made ! I implore you all to pick these up - literally a lifetime of gaming, I've been playing them both on & off since 2004 - these 2 remasters are a gem
Age of Empires is 100% day one buy for me. Never played Age of Mythology so I’m gonna have to look into a bit but certainly looks up my alley.

@nessisonett makes sense tbh, given that Sony ****-the-bed on GaaS and MS are porting games from the last 20 years (not just what they have coming up for Xbox and PC).
Swwwweeeeet. This was my number one hope for a port. Even tho AoE 4 and the Halo Wars franchise arent as popular, I would love to see them also on PS5.

Warcraft and Starcraft were more my speed back in the day, but happy to hear that fans will be able to play Ages on PlayStation.

@Bionic-Spencer yep, that would be my preferred route too.
Even if some were just place holders with a date to tease new releases that would be better.
The only question left to be answered is if any of these will get a physical release on PS. As of yet I have seen no evidence of any of the ports getting a disc version.
We all know the whole slate is coming to PS5 sooner or later.
We went from "it's just four games" to Xbox becoming a full-fledged third-party publisher in less than a year.

There really should be a “console cross play only” option. No interest in risking PC cheaters and hackers in any game.
@gtfan23 @thefourfoldroot1 it would be nice if they could separate the Xbox consoles from the PC versions for cross play in this and all titles. No ones interested in playing with those pc cheaters and risking getting their accounts banned from Xbox or PSN.

@nessisonett Sony doesn’t care if you buy their games, they just want you to buy a $200 controller a $200 Portal and a $600 PS VR2 to play with your $700 Pro that doesn’t even include a disc drive to play your games. 😂

Age of Empires 2 is one of the only games where I agree when people say "you really need a mouse and keyboard for this". I have tried to play it on Xbox but I can only do easy difficulty because I get overwhelmed with all the button configurations.
Age of Empires II is one of my brother’s favorite games of all time, so he’ll be excited to hear this.

Maybe a dumb question but how does one play an RTS game like AoE2 with a controller?
For those speculating I would assume Halo will be announced at the Switch 2 Game Direct which is in April.

Nice! I'll pick up both. Was a fan of age of empire back in the day. That along with Command and Conquer red alert and the civ games had me going just one more turn often long into the night.
Definitely getting Age of Empires 2. Need to look into Age of Mythology more, not sure I'm interested in that one.

Must admit Age of Empires & Age of Mythology II seeing light of day on PS5 wasn't on the 2025 bingo card. Though I still note the irony that "game anywhere" Gamer Phil Spencer can't seem to embrace GOG Store for PC....indeed only recently they removed the "classic" Warcraft & Warcraft II games.
Oh well,hopefully manages a decent translation to gamepad vs mouse/keyboard.🤞
